how others have done it > benevolent mobile phone > physical others protocol
physical others protocol

"using the phone in an anti-social way in the presence of others causes it to display its embarrassment."

In response to user behaviour it activates three levels of intervention;

PASSIVE: It attempts to reconnect the user to the physical world by emitting a small red glow whilst randomly punctuating the conversation by switching to speakerphone mode.

ASSERTIVE: If the user persists in behaving inappropriately the phone becomes more embarrassed and glows deep red. This is visible to others.

The frequency and the quantity of words released on speakerphone increases allowing others to partially join in the conversation.

AGGRESSIVE: Finally the phone takes an aggressive stance by emitting a deep red glow which showers light all around the user. The speakerphone is now at full capacity preventing the use of the phone near the ear and allowing all “spectators” in the vicinity to participate in, or comment on, the conversation.

The benevolent mobile phone has two other in-built protocols to deal with misuse in a social context; <“Prolonged Conversation”> and <“Raised Voice”>. Further upgrades are installed via a <central database>.
